Blury exicutions spoil the game!
I must says as a manhunt fan I am disappointed with the censorship of this game because it spoils it! I have played the uncensored & censored version. Of course the Uncensored version is better.
I have played manhunt 1 many times and I have not killed anyone or have been affected by the game mentally. I am a martial artist and know how to kill in many ways!
I feel all this controversy is a waste of time!
this game rulez
this one is well better dan the first one new executions nd all new gun execution(which is wicked),new weapons from wood saw, baseball bat cover in wire, pens, syringe, circular saw nd more but the storyline is not as gud as the first but a defo gud game to play
The witch hunt is over, but...
After well over a year, Manhunt 2 has finally got a UK release. But the problem is that it had no chance to live up to expectations due to the controversy it caused. And that's just a start...
The first Manhunt game was a finely crafted combination of stealth 'em up and survival horror, with an air of menace and a grimy, dank and disturbing atmosphere. The idea, too, made a lot of sense - albeit in a twisted way. The second game is none of these.
The atmosphere is ruined by two major aspects.
Firstly, the game more often than not features shoot-outs with a number of enemies at the end of several levels, which is anachronistic with the stalk & slash premise of the first game and, by extension, the second. Indeed, the flashback sections are shoot 'em ups and nothing more.
Secondly, too much of the game seems to be going out of its way with shock tactics, rather than create an atmosphere. So there are levels taking place in S&M clubs that turn out to be snuff movie studios, or feature a shoot-out in a porn theatre. In short, the game seems to be catering to a lower common denominator than the first.
But the lower denominators will be upset at the fact that all executions have been censored for this release, as the screen blurs and pixelates so you can't make out what's going on (there's at least one environment execution where you literally can't see a thing). Considering the first game featured the executions in uncut detail, and there are editions of Manhunt 2 that're also uncensored, this feels like a cop-out. It also causes a double standard: the gun executions are censored, but if you shoot an enemy point-blank with a gun it isn't, although the final effect is more or less the exact same.
The plot also suffers: the first game took place in a snuff reality TV show; the second is a generic conspiracy thriller, albeit with a lot more gore. The plot is also remarkably similar to The Suffering, as you have visions and flashbacks throughout to piece together Daniel Lamb's story. Other notable likenesses are the comments you get when you execute an enemy (a quick execution gets a message of "It was him or you", a violent one is received with relish), and the fact it's pretty obvious that the Leo character is just a manifestation of Daniel's violent personality remarkably early.
However, although a lot of the game suffers in comparison with the original, there are some interesting additions: the environment executions are a smart touch (as are the aforementioned gun executions), as is ambient noise serving to shroud your movements also aids the game. The ability to break lights to create more shadow to hide in is also helpful.
At the end of the day, Manhunt 2 just isn't as good as the first, which can be put down to Rockstar North delegating the game to other studios (the PS2 version being the work of Rockstar London), or the fact the game takes a different approach to the first - but also the wrong approach at that. A lot of people will play it for the controversy and be disappointed when anything controversial is gutted from the game, whilst fans of the first will be disappointed that it's a weak continuation of the series.
Daniel Lamb is here
I prefer the first one. I've completed both of them, the problem with part 2 is that there are too many guns available, hence making it far too easy to shoot your way through the levels, making the game come to an end. Part 1 was much, much more difficult, and longer. A very good game nonetheless, if you stay away from the temptation to pick up the various guns and rifles. Buy it, you won't be sorry.
It's back!!!
Contrary to the other comments, Manhunt 2 has now been granted a release date. It will be released on Oct 31st 2008, and although I suspect the content has been toned down, it will still be a worthwhile purchase.
